Street Soccer Scotland Hosts First Ever Womens Football Festival and Womens Corporate Cup
Street Soccer Scotland, the award-winning charity and social enterprise, hosted its first ever Women’s Festival and Scotland’s first Women’s Corporate Cup in Glasgow on Friday 20th September 2019.
The day, which is supported by Scottish commercial law firm Burness Paull, Powerleague and charity ‘Scottish Women in Sport’, will consisted of a 5-a-side tournament with 18 teams representing corporate Scotland and women’s football projects across Scotland.
The day started with a dynamic group warm up from Troon Dynamic Fitness, which got our female players set up for the day. Various taster sessions were available throughout the day which included Street Soccer Scotland’s popular women’s Street45 programme and well-being and information zones showcasing local women’s projects. Live music and DJs were there throughout the day providing constant entertainment for the women involved. And if that wasn’t enough, local female Street Art group came along to do a live session of iconic female players past and present.
The football festival was hosted by Townhead Powerleague in Glasgow and was open to everyone regardless of their fitness or footballing ability. The morning session also featured a Schools Cup for girls aged P5 – P7 to participate in, schools from a range of areas in Scotland came along to participate.
David Duke MBE, founder of Street Soccer Scotland said: “Women have attended Street Soccer Scotland sessions for many years and our dedicated Street45 programme is now delivered across Scotland and attracts women of all ages and abilities aimed at improving their physical and mental well-being. Our first Women’s Festival aims to increase participation and demonstrate the benefits of regular exercise and interaction with others.
